5 Reasons Why Smoking Weed Everyday Is A Problem.

I like to think that people understand moderation. The more people I talk to however, lead me to believe otherwise. I used to smoke weed everyday, and it lead to a plethora of other drugs. I am not saying that weed is a “gateway” drug. What I am saying is using any type of drug everyday is a problem. The people I know personally that use weed everyday are using it not as a recreational drug. They are using it as a crutch.

  1. Band aid over a gunshot wound- My friends that use weed everyday range in age from 16–40. Each one of these people I find have some aspect of their life that they are not happy with. Instead of finding new and healthy ways to process the emotions that come with everyday life, these people rely on weed to help them. When people begin to rely on weed they put it on a pedestal and believe it is helping them. In reality it is numbing them, nullifying their emotions.
  2. Social Issue- I find that younger people fall into a societal trap where they watch influencers smoke weed everyday. They see the life these people lead and believe that a major part of that life is the weed. The social outlook on weed has shifted over the past five to ten years. It was once viewed as a major issue. Whereas now I would say its as socially acceptable as legal drinking. So young people see this and believe it is applicable to their own life. They fail to realize that when people start using drugs at a young age it stunts their growth emotionally.
  3. Creatures of Habit- A problem with weed is that there is no immediate damage. A person can smoke weed daily for months sometimes even years without realizing it has turned into a drug habit. With harder drugs there is obvious withdraw symptoms, however with weed there is none. Mentally the brain will want that dopamine and serotonin provided by the weed. Once this is removed people will experience a litany of emotions. Most of which are not pleasant.
  4. Behavioral Issues- It is my personal experience that when a person begins to smoke weed they often begin to exhibit certain behaviors. These behaviors are often associated with deeper issues. When people smoke weed everyday, they begin to lie about their smoking. If they do not openly lie about the smoking, they usually lie about the amount they smoke. Along with the lying they begin to delve deeper into a life style of people who sell and buy drugs. People attract like minded people, so now along with new behaviors they often find new friends. The common bond between these friends is their shared fancy of smoking daily.
  5. Gasoline- I do not believe that weed is a “gateway” drug. However I think that it has the ability to sway a person closer to an addiction. Weed in most cases starts out harmless. I think the substance itself stays harmless, but the mental attraction to a numbing agent is the furthest thing from harmless. People begin to like the feeling or lack thereof that weed provides. Eventually a tolerance will begin to grow which will require more weed. After a certain point the weed will not numb effectively enough.

I am not an anti weed person, in the medial sense I hope weed has the ability to trump opiates. With that said I do believe it is totally possible to become addicted to weed. I think that the outlook on weed needs to shift, not to a “bad” drug but to a moderately dangerous one. I also hope that when the inevitable decriminalization of weed happens, people will realize that it is a good thing. Weed is not a harmful substance, people turn it into a harmful solution.
